Privacy Policy
Effective Date: June 03, 2026 · Last Updated: July 26, 2026
iCompressIt (“we”, “our”, or “the Site”) operates the website https://icompressit.com (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our free browser-based image compression tool.
Our core principle is simple: maximum privacy by design. The compression engine runs entirely on your device. Your images are never transmitted to our servers.
1. Information We Collect
We designed iCompressIt to collect as little data as possible.
1.1 Image Files
- No images are uploaded to our servers.
- All processing (decoding, analysis, re-encoding, and download) happens locally in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API, FileReader API, and Blob URLs.
- We have no technical ability to access, view, store, or retain the content of your images.
1.2 Personal Information
We do not require an account and do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or other personal identifiers for the core compression service.
1.3 Anonymous Usage Analytics
We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how the Service is used in aggregate. This may include:
- Page views and session duration
- Approximate location (country/city level)
- Device type, browser, and operating system
- Anonymous events such as “image_compressed” (format and approximate savings percentage only - never the image content)
These analytics help us improve performance and features. They do not identify individual users or their files.
2. Cookies and Third-Party Services
We use a limited number of cookies and third-party services:
2.1 Essential / Functional Cookies
Used for basic site functionality (for example, remembering your preferred theme - light or dark mode).
2.2 Google Analytics
Google Analytics uses cookies to collect the anonymous usage data described above. You can learn more in Google’s Privacy Policy.
2.3 Google AdSense
We display advertisements through Google AdSense to keep the Service free. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this and other websites.
Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the Internet.
You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
For more information about how Google uses data, please review Google’s Advertising Policies and Privacy Policy.
3. How We Use Information
Any limited data we collect is used only to:
- Operate and improve the Service
- Understand which formats and features are most useful
- Monitor performance and fix technical issues
- Display relevant advertisements via Google AdSense
We never sell personal data. We never use your images for any purpose.
4. Data Retention
Because we do not receive or store your images, there is no retention period for image content.
Anonymous analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics default settings (typically 14 months) and is used only in aggregated form.
5. Your Rights (GDPR & Similar Laws)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, California, or other jurisdictions with data-protection laws, you may have rights including:
- Right to access personal data we hold about you
- Right to rectification
- Right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”)
- Right to restrict or object to processing
- Right to data portability
Because we collect very little personal data, exercising these rights is straightforward. To make a request, email us at hello@icompressit.com.
Note: Image files processed in your browser are never under our control, so we cannot access or delete them.
6. Children’s Privacy
Our Service is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
7. International Users
iCompressIt is accessible worldwide. Because processing occurs on your own device, your images do not cross international borders through our Service. Analytics data may be processed by Google in accordance with their policies.
8. Security
Since image data never leaves your browser, the primary security boundary is your own device. We follow standard web security practices for the website itself (HTTPS, secure headers, etc.).
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised “Last Updated” date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
